The Four Seasons: Plett’s Year-Round Appeal

Everyone knows Plett in summer: the thrilling pop of a cork and thwack of a polo ball, the bliss of beautiful beach days, al-fresco music concerts, and sunshine. But to only visit when the coast is buzzing is to miss the other three acts of a spectacular show. Plett is, in fact, the ultimate year-round destination, offering fantastic weather, irresistible natural attractions, and a fascinating array of cultural, sporting and lifestyle events and festivals that will keep you coming back for more.

EPIC EASTER

March – May

The autumn season offers a sun-kissed extension of summer along with the added benefits of a quieter town and the delightful bustle of harvest time along the Plett Wine Route. This past year, we welcomed back the much-loved Plett Wine & Bubbly Festival and, in 2026, Buco Adventure Weekend will celebrate 20 years of outdoor family adventure over Easter. With dates for these and more still to be confirmed, scan the QR code below for updates.

WINTER WITH THE WHALES

June – November

The coastline of Plett is globally renowned for its terrestrial and marine diversity, supporting a vast ecosystem of ocean wildlife, including resident Bryde’s whales, dolphins and seals, alongside iconic transient species like Humpback and Southern Right whales. Those wishing to experience the aquatic wonderland of whale season should plan a visit between June and November, when these migratory giants pass along the coast, offering spectacular viewing from marine safaris and lookouts.

Coinciding with this period, the eagerly anticipated Plett Ocean Festival (3 – 12 July 2026) serves as a vibrant, multi-day celebration of the town’s marine wonders. The festival invites ocean lovers from across the country to get together for family-friendly, ocean-themed activities and a fascinating Marine Science Symposium, fostering crucial discussions on conservation. Plett is perfectly positioned for this role, boasting six international Blue Flag beaches, two Blue Flag boats, and esteemed recognition as both a Mission Blue Hope Spot and a Whale Heritage Area. www.plettoceanfestival.co.za

SPRING’S THE SEASON FOR ARTS & CULTURE

September

There isn’t a better time to host an arts festival than September – Heritage Month. And, 2026’s Plett ARTS Festival (25 September – 4 October 2026) coincides perfectly with National Heritage Day on the 24th! Join us in exploring and celebrating the area’s unique cultural diversity, enjoy exhibitions, art in nature, workshops, land art, music and more over the 10-day festival.

The festival opens with the popular Twilight Meander on Main Street – a much-anticipated highlight – as the street comes alive with busking musicians, exhibition openings, dancers, and our legendary Plett hospitality and community spirit. www.plettartsfestival.co.za

CHUKKERS AT THE COAST

December – April

What would summer be without the glamour and action of the Plett Polo Season? The polo crowd spend  summer and autumn in Plett playing a variety of tournaments the highlight of which is the thrilling, fast-paced match on 29 December each year. Visitors are encouraged to either book their pavilion seats at Kurland or select a picnic spot on the grass to enjoy the action. www.plettpolo.co.za for the full schedule.
